Colombia will host the COP16 Biodiversity in 2024

Colombia is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, with 10% of the world's biodiversity in 2,129,748 square kilometers of continental and maritime territory. Minister Susana Muhamad led the application and presentation of the country's credentials to host COP16, the world biodiversity event, with the purpose of making our country visible and promoting it and remaining active in the global climate action agenda. Dubai, December 15, 2023 @MinAmbienteCo The Bureau of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, meeting this December 15, accepted Colombia's offer to host the next United Nations Conference on Biological Diversity. Biodiversity, which will take place from October 21 to November 1, 2024. The Conference will include the Sixteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 16); the Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety; and the Fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties, serving as the Meeting of the Parties, to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Use. It will include a high-level ministerial segment. Announcing Colombia's offer, H. E. Susana Muhamad, Colombia's Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, said: "This will be a great opportunity for one of the most biodiverse nations in the world. "It is the commitment of President Gustavo Petro and the entire country to preserve our planet, as well as send a message from Latin America about the importance of climate action and the protection of life."
